Northwest ENERGY STAR Homes Certification Requirements for Multi-family homes in Idaho, Montana and Washington.
To earn the ENERGY STAR label, multifamily homes in Idaho, Montana and Washington must be built to the following Northwest ENERGY STAR Homes Builder Option Package (BOP).

BOP MF1 – Ducted Natural Gas Fired Furnace or Heat Pump
Multifamily homes are defined as follows:
Idaho and Montana - 3 stories or less, multiple units
Washington - 4 stories or less, multiple units
Technical Compliance Options
To help builders meet energy efficiency goals, Technical Compliance Options (TCOs) have been developed to allow additional energy efficiency features to substitute for some of the requirements of the BOPs.
Current Technical Compliance Options for Multifamily homes:
TCO #MF001 – Ductless Heat Pump
TCO #MF002 – Gas Hydronic Heating System
TCO #MF003 – Ductless Gas Unit Heaters
